Everything about Harry was so easy to Draco, always feeling that he knew exactly what to offer him and how it was going to be received. It was simple in a way that things rarely were to him, and it was downright impossible for him not to savour it.
He kept Harry pulled tight for a moment longer, desperately wanting to ease his worry and make him forget of everything terrible that had ever happened to him, if even just for a moment.
“Let’s go home, yeah?” He stated gently, only just barely breaking the kiss to be able to speak. He had had enough of the ministry for a day, and just wanting to get to have Harry for himself again.

For a long moment, Harry lingered in Draco’s proximity, reluctant to forfeit it. His hands remained on Draco’s neck, thumbs carefully brushing the line of his jaw. Harry had the feeling that he had only just sat down, and while this was a sorry excuse for genuine relaxation, Harry almost couldn’t bear leaving, too comfortable with Draco to care about the clumsiness of the room.
It was, however, undeniably that the word home spoken so sweetly to him made his stomach flip with a want that was far beyond desire.
“Alright,” he gave in, leaning in to press a leisurely kiss to Draco’s cheek as a final objection - or perhaps a promise.
Reluctantly withdrawing, Harry slipped off of Draco’s lap, right hand falling from his neck to his shoulder, a gentle invitation to get up, too.

There was a gentle ease in the way he and Draco were around each other, speaking of just how used they had gotten to each other and just how much they enjoyed each other’s company.
“Better than sitting here,” he stated with a warm smile, his hand having moved from Harry’s thigh to his hip again, finding it extraordinarily difficult to keep his hands off of him. His own day had likely been far more pleasant than what Harry’s had been, but he still wanted to to be around him even more.
“I’m sure Coote will have dinner ready for us.”

_______________

Draco had made the right call on ushering them back to the Manor. It had taken most of the evening for the tension to entirely leave Harry’s chest, but by the time they were settling in for the night, he finally felt like he could breathe again. It was difficult not to accredit that effect to Draco himself, although Harry wasn’t sure he wanted to deny it, either.
Returning back to bed from the bathroom, Harry had redressed in flannel trousers and socks, the chill of fall creeping up his shins during the night. He had not opted for a shirt; as he knelt back onto the bed, he chased a different, more reliant source of warmth. Despite having just left Draco’s proximity, Harry resettled lazily between Draco’s legs, wrapping his arms around his waist as he draped himself over Draco’s chest, body heavy with exhaustion.

There was an immense ease in the way Harry found his way back to him, easily wrapping himself around him and becoming at ease in their embrace.
Draco hadn’t even thought about it when he brought Harry back to the manor, finding it borderline routine by now, and it was a difficult not to find comfort in it. Sometimes he tried to really consider the implications of what this meant for them, but he never got very far in his considerations.
He knew that giving it too much thought would ultimately lead to unpleasant conclusions, so most of the time he elected to just enjoy the company, unsure how long it would last.
It was the same now, as he wrapped his arms around Harry as well, one hand automatically finding his fair and slowly started carding through it.

Harry felt the last bones in his spine melt away beneath Draco’s caress, rendered little more than putty in the embrace. It felt impossible to even fathom ever getting up, let alone wanting to.
He exhaled, slow and exhausted, as though emptying his lungs could mean he ceased to be.
The word /home/ had echoed in his subconsciousness for the entire evening, and, as he laid there, the thud of Draco’s heartbeat in his ears, it was suddenly on the tip of his tongue, too.
“The Mind Healer asked me if I’m doing alright at home,” he spoke into Draco’s chest after a minute, and though his voice was low and even, it was a tentative attempt to reflect on everything he hadn’t been able to share with the Healer.

Draco hummed at the statement, unsure what exactly it was that Harry was trying to tell him with that, but he was prepared to just listen to whatever he wanted to share.
“Yeah?” He prompted, a soft smile on his lips as he did.
He knew better than anyone that Harry hadn’t actually been home for ages, spending most of his nights at the manor with Draco, something that he was endlessly grateful for; having found that now that he was used to having company, the manor felt so endlessly lonely without it.
“How are you doing at home?” He couldn’t stop himself from asking, curious as to how Harry would have gone about answering that question.

When Draco phrased the question, Harry gave it more contemplation that he had when the Mind Healer had asked him. It was easier here, finding himself under far less scrutiny to be quick and correct.
“Well, I’m not there, am I,” he mused, his voice small. Draco’s repeated caresses lulled him to the brink of sleep, only kept awake by the lingering endorphins still in his bloodstream.

Draco couldn’t help but chuckle at that, his hand continuously working his hand through Harry’s thick hair as he tried to listen for what Harry actually was telling him.
Their situation was always going to be pretty delicate, both of them having difficulties sharing the things that bothered them.
“No exhilarating updates from Kreacher while you have been gone?” He asked instead, crooked grin on his face he did soo.

The question pulled Harry out of his reverie enough to make him snort, a startled little chuckle forced out of him. Startling even himself, he chased the grin into Draco’s chest, turning to press the bridge of his nose against his bare skin, a moment of blissful darkness.
“No, none,” he mused, entertained enough to acknowledge the tease with a chaste kiss to Draco’s sternum.
Once again turning to lay on his cheek, Harry’s eyes remained closed, at ease.
“Grimmauld’s a shithole,” he exhaled, his voice still easy with the laugh, making the crudeness of the statement sound almost cheerful.

Harry’s laugh was everything to him, relieved in knowing that he wasn’t more tense than that.
He knew that this entire process was extremely frustrating to Harry as well, so he wanted to do anything that he could to ease that burden, wanting to bring whatever light he could into their time together.
“So you don’t miss it?” He found himself asking, knowing that Harry likely wouldn’t be returning to the manor with him essentially every single night if that had been the case. Still, he wanted to be sure that Harry didn’t feel like he was keeping him from something, and that he was here because he genuinely wanted to be.

The question made another little huffed laugh escape Harry, although distinctly different; this was one heavy with something akin to sarcasm.
“No,” he replied, a humourless joke somewhere in his tone.
For a moment it seemed like Harry was content leaving it at that, his breathing evening out.
“It still reminds me so much of him,” he eventually added, his voice small between heavy breaths. Draco’s hand in his hair was warm and soothing, drawing out thoughts that had weighed heavy at the back of Harry’s mind for years. “I think it’s making me miserable.”

Who the him Harry was referring to wasn’t immediately obvious to Draco, but as he kept running his fingers through his hair, caressing his neck and allowing them to breathe like one, he remembered the reason that Harry was the legal owner of Grimmauld Place in the first place.
“Your godfather?” He asked, still trying to wrap his head around the fact that his mother’s cousin was Harry’s godfather, but it was just another one of those things that made their lives so hopelessly intertwined.
Even though the admission came with the admission of being miserable in his own home, Draco couldn’t help but cling onto the idea that that had to meant that Harry wasn’t as miserable at the manor, even if it was hardly a more joyful place than Grimmauld Place.

Harry hummed a low reply, the loss that clung to that word still making his heart ache with everything that could have been.
“I slept in his childhood bedroom when I first moved in,” he reminisced, barely opening his eyes, vision blurred and cheek scrunched. Still, he had spent enough hours in this particular room to make sense of the vague shapes, knowing that this room, in a sense, was a relic of Draco’s childhood, too. It was distinctly different, though.
“I eventually had to stop,” he mumbled, eyes falling back shut.
He was silent for a few, slow breaths full of things he considered saying but didn’t. Instead, he turned to a far simpler truth. “I like your room better.”

It was at times like these that Draco knew just how bad he got it for Harry.
His heart ached for him, wanting to soothe that pain that he seemed to carry with him and wanting to make sure that his future was going to get better than what life had had in store for him so far.
The comment about preferring Draco’s room made his heart jump in his chest, knowing that it likely wasn’t something that he should read too much into, yet he was so keen to believe that it was him that Harry preferred. It was painful to linger on for too long, yet Draco knew that he was never going to be able to let that thought go.
“I like having you in my room too,” was the only answer he could give, his tongue heavy with the things that he wanted to say but knew that he never would be able to. He liked having Harry in his life far too much to be able to lose him to something arbitrary like being in love with him, so he was simply going to have to endure.

This particular conversation had been easier to have in the dark, out of view and without a sense of scrutiny. Draco’s breathing, heartbeat, heat was so close and still he was reduced to a touch and a voice out of Harry’s line of sight, making it so easy to share. That particular reply, however, had Harry itching to look at him.
It made Harry open his eyes and lazily move to straighten himself out. Drawing one hand onto Draco’s chest, Harry turned his head far enough that his cheek rested against his knuckles, looking at Draco awash with moonlight.
Overcome with emotions, the love he felt for Draco spilled out of Harry with a soft chuckle. Moving his hand aside, Harry kissed Draco’s skin where his hand had covered it, a smile pulling at his lips.
“Ta for having me,” he teased against Draco’s skin, because he didn’t know how else to say it.
His hand instead becoming purposeful on the mattress beside Draco, Harry pushed himself upright enough that he could place the next kiss to Draco’s lips, this conveying his gratitude far more earnestly than his words.

While Draco still didn’t feel like a real and proper part of the team, he still greatly appreciated being invited out for Friday night pints. He knew that it was likely Hannah’s work, having not really talked with most of the other curse breakers, but he was slowly getting there.
This Friday was no different from any other Friday since his first one, and he had been placed at a table at the Tadpole next to Hannah, his glass of wine in front of him.
There had come to be a pleasant routine in their outings, Draco finding that as long as he stuck close to either Hannah or Paul he was going to be just fine. It wasn’t that anyone was unpleasant towards him, however Draco sometimes felt that it was obvious that he hadn’t done much in the form of socialisation for the past decade, so he preferred to have the buffer the two of them provided.

Given how his last year has transpired, it had been a while since Harry had been able to attend one of Robards’ quarterlies. Scheduled as overtime on a Friday at the end of each quarter, it was intended to cover everything from budgeting to ethics among middle management.
The offered whiskey always seemed to blur the lines between work and a social affair, however, and still Harry hadn’t particularly missed the meetings. Usually a decent excuse to swing by the pub with a few of his younger coworkers, Harry found that he no longer harboured a near-desperate impulse to keep himself occupied and out of Grimmauld Place for as long as possible.
Still, Harry had taken the floo from the department to the Tipsy Tadpole along with three of the most junior Inspectors, drawn to the pub by something else entirely; the simple knowledge that Draco had been invited out by Connor, and would likely already be there.
The opportunity to coincide at the pub, even just for a fleeting moment, had Harry’s stomach flipping with anticipation, adrenaline mixing with the buzz left behind by the whiskey. They could have just met up at the Manor later tonight, but Harry itched to see Draco here, like this. Somewhere in the far depths of his mind, he knew he could be dead sober and just as excited, never seeming to tire of being around Draco, less of all in something that almost felt like real life.
Harry had barely had a chance to brush off the soot off of his coat sleeve before finding Draco in the crowd; how could he not?

It had become a tentative part of Draco’s routine to joy Hannah and the other cursebreakers at the Tipsy Tadpole for Friday night drinks, and he could honestly say that he was enjoying himself.
He mostly stuck to conversations with just Hannah and, Buchannan when he joined them, but people were slowly opening up to him and were beginning to include him in conversations. This was probably due to him getting to show himself more and more at work, proving himself to be trustworthy and someone who knew what he was talking about.
Tonight, he was placed between Hannah and Buchannan, glass of red wine half drunk in front of him, and having zoned somewhat out of the conversation for now, mostly focused on feeling well at ease.
Hannah was in an argument about quidditch with Brennan, an auror who had decided to join them for the night and who had clearly never encountered her before.

Harry had stalled a few feet away from the hearth, his attention refocused by a coworker egging him on. Dismissing the invitation with a brief touch to his forearm, Harry excused himself with the promise of his return. Instead of joining the three inspectors he had arrived with at the bar, Harry instead sought out the cluster of Cursebreakers seated by a group of tables at the far end.
He had barely gotten a few yards away from the table before Freddy Brennan, a rogue Auror in the bunch, noticed him approaching.
“Settle this, sir,” Brennan called good-humoured and loud, leaning in over the table to peer down at Harry between the rows of people. Unable to comfortably look at him, he ended up leaning back, grinning at Harry behind Connor’s back. “Who’s the best player active in the league, currently?”
Harry had entered the interaction with a grin, but the question stumped him, forcing him to realise his attention had not been on Brennan but on Draco. It left his reaction a little stifled, almost excessively correct, even through the self awareness his sheepish grin carried.
“Ginny Weasley, certainly,” he chimed in as he reached the table end, making Brennan tsk with feigned annoyance, clearly discounting Harry’s input as worthless.
It only widened Harry’s grin, eyes politely skimming the group, both seeming to both start and end on Draco, feeling his stomach flip with anticipation.
“Cheers, lads,” he offered the group as a collective greeting, although his attention remained on Draco when he spoke.
